B.Tech Marine Engineering Courses & Colleges

The eligibility to enroll for B.Tech Marine Engineering is 10+2 with science subjects. Students undergoing this course will get equipped with skills required to design, construct and maintain the structures around or on water. This engineering branch mainly covers the nautical architecture and science.

A Marine Engineer is responsible for maintaining the complex machineries housed by a contemporary ship. Some of these systems include monitoring systems, refrigeration, steam turbines, winches, pumps, boilers, alternators, steam engines, compressors, gas turbines, diesel engines, crosses, and air conditioning plants. Marine engineer plays a very significant and responsible role in maintaining these machineries and ensuring that these run flawlessly throughout the journey of the ship. It requires high level of technical expertise and knowledge.

Once the candidate completes the 4 years B.Tech Marine Engineering course by clearing the four modules, the student becomes a junior engineer and is appointed as the same on a ship. A few years after serving on the ship, the junior engineer becomes eligible for chief engineer exam conducted by the Director General of Shipping, Mumbai that comes under the Government of India. Once you clear the exam, you are eligible to work as a Chief Engineer. So, over a period of six to seven years, the Junior Engineer turns into a Chief Engineer.

On clearing the exam successfully, the Junior Engineer gets promoted as a Fourth Engineer and becomes eligible for earning nearly 2700 USD/ month

Second Engineer

After serving as a Fourth Engineer for 12 months on a ship, he becomes eligible to appear for the Class II exam. Before he can appear for the exam, he has to attend a 4 months course. On clearing the exam successfully, the Fourth Engineer gets promoted as a Second Engineer and becomes eligible for earning nearly 5700 USD/ month

Chief Engineer

After serving as a Second Engineer for 18 months on a ship, he becomes eligible to appear for the Class I exam. Before he can appear for the exam, he has to attend a 2 months course. On clearing the exam successfully, the Fourth Engineer gets promoted as a Second Engineer and becomes eligible for earning nearly 8000 USD/ month
