In both the cases, you will have to undergo training programs where you are required to be at the sea as a deck cadet. Marine engineering, on the other hand, is more on the technical side of the jobs offered at the sea. This is the course which you should opt for if you have a nag for the more technical side of the marine life. There is a lot of machinery and equipment on board which needs regular checks and maintenance and a good marine engineer is always needed in a lot of companies. In the initial year, the curriculum is more like mechanical engineering which later on gets developed for the marine life.
