B.SC Nautical Science course is a full time 3 Years residential course. It is approved by the DG of Shipping, Mumbai which falls under Govt. of India The course is divided into 6 semesters, each lasting 6 months. Once the candidates complete the course, they are required to undergo one year long sea service. After completing the sea service and passing the subsequent oral examination, the candidate will obtain the second mate’s Foreign-going Certificate of Competency. This certificate will make you eligible to hold the post of Navigation Officer on Merchant Navy ships.

There are many Bsc nautical science colleges offering Bsc nautical science course, but the trick is to choose an authorized and genuine college to kick-start your career prospects.

Eligibility criteria to enroll in the course at Bsc nautical science colleges:

Candidates opting for the course should have cleared 12th under 10+2 system of schooling (with Science stream), having subjects -Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as the main subjects. Candidates should also obtain at least 50% marks in each of the science subjects. At least 50% marks are also required in English subject.

AGE LIMIT

The age of the candidate should be between 17—25 years, at the time when the course starts. Along with the academic and age criteria, the medical fitness of the student is also taken into account by the qualifying Bsc nautical science colleges. For example, eyesight of 6/6 is required for the candidates and they should also not be suffering from night blindness or color blindness. Overall physically fitness is also considered by the Bsc nautical science colleges.

Career Growth

Training Cadet

As soon as the cadet gets recruited on a ship, he or she is appointed as a training cadet. To get promoted to the next level i.e. the Second Officer, a sea experience of 12 months as a training cadet is required. A training cadet is paid somewhere about 1500 USD/ month

Second Officer

After clearing an oral examination and acquiring a 12 months of sea experience, the training cadet gets promoted as a second officer. A second officer gets paid somewhere about 3000 USD/ month

Chief Officer and Captain

With further sea experience as well as exam the second officer get promoted as a Chief Officer and then finally a Captain. A chief officer is paid nearly 5000 USD/ month and a Captain is paid nearly 9000 USD/ month.
