Electro Technical Officer (ETO) Courses
The full form of ETO is ‘Electro Technical Officer’. The ETO course is a 4 months program. The Electro-Technical Officer is responsible for the correct working of all the electrical systems on a ship. Also known as Marine Electrical Engineer course, this role is one of the most imperative positions in the technical hierarchy of a ship and is in charge of looking after the assigned work under the Chief Engineer’s outline.
The Electro-Technical Officer (ETO) monitors all onboard electronic and electrical equipment – maximizing the operational safety and efficiency of the vessel. As this particular role is still evolving, you may find it plays a significant part at Junior and Senior Officer levels. While on other ships, it is part of the Engineer Officers' jobs.
The Eligibility Criteria for enrolling in ETO course:
To ensure one is eligible for admission into the ETO course, the candidate must have passed 10, +2 with PCM & English with minimum 50% marks in final exam, from a recognized board. Those who have passed three years Diploma or four years Degree with 60% marks in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunication/communication Engineering, or Electronics and Instrumentation or equivalent are also eligible for the ETO course.
One needs to ensure that the Diploma or Degree courses of eligibility criteria must have been recognized by any state or Central Government or the AICTE. Candidates applying for the course should also exhibit Medical fitness as per DGS norms and the age should not be more than 35 years as on the date of commencement of classes.
Those who take up this course will become Electro technical officer, and you will be made to operate and maintain all the mechanical and electrical equipment on board the ship. You will also be responsible for power generation and distribution, lifts, refrigeration plant, pumping and ventilation systems. There are two ranks for Electrical Officer on board .At the time of joining, the candidate joins as a Trainee and later he is promoted to Electrical Officer.
